F1 2002 is the only entry in Electronic Arts' Formula 1 racing series to appear on the Game Boy Advance. It simulates the 2002 Formula 1 season and features the year's 17 tracks and 11 teams with their 22 drivers.
The Quick Race game modes offers a single race on any of the game's tracks. Championship mode allows for a customized championship on selected courses. Season 2002 is the main game mode, simulating the entire season. Two-player multiplay via the link cable is also available.
Before a race, several settings are customizable: automatic or manual gearbox, wet or dry tires, downforce, gearing, brakes, fuel load, pit stop strategy and more. Also, a detailed map of each course suggest recommended speeds and gear settings for each curve and chicane. Actual gameplay during a race is seen from behind the player's car, with cars displayed as sprites on the textured road.
